Not an easy question to answer. In 2010/2011 I looked at properties where land is $200,000US per acre (Carrillo, Guanacaste) and other places where land is $2,100US per acre (North-central Costa Rica where it boarders with Nicaragua). Within the Central Valley you will be looking at $10,000US+ per acre.

For a more accurate answer you should explain your purpose for purchasing property in Costa Rica. (What works for a commercial farmer will not work for a vacation home and vice verca)

Who explored Costa Rica?

I think Christopher Columbus first explored Costa Rica during his fourth voyage to the Americas in 1502. He landed near what is now Puerto Limón on the Caribbean coast. After Columbus, Spanish conquistadors, such as Gil González Dávila, further explored and attempted to colonize the region in the early 16th century. These early explorers were followed by missionaries and settlers who gradually developed the area, although Costa Rica was considered a remote and difficult region due to its mountainous terrain and resistance from indigenous peoples.
