The biggest roads are motorways, e.g. M1, M25, M4. They have 3 lanes each side with a hard shoulder for parking in emergencies. Some busy areas of motorway have 4 lanes each side. Junctions are spaced 5 or more miles apart and the speed limit is 70 mph.

The distance between Nottingham and Portsmouth is approximately 190 miles (306 kilometers) when traveling by road. This journey typically takes around 3 to 4 hours by car, depending on traffic conditions.
It would take approximately 5 and 3/4 hours to drive from Brighton to Snowdonia. It is of course advisable to leave extra time particularly as your journey would take you along a section of the M25, and also along motorways around Birmingham. It would be advisable to take the M6 Toll road too, as this is nearly always very clear. Even off the motorways, the smaller roads in North Wales can sometimes be tricky, particularly if you are behind a slow moving vehicle! Once in the region you would need to add a little extra time to get to your final destination and to perhaps explore. It could be more than 15 hours in some built up areas, or less than 4 hours on some motorways. And that is without violating speed limits.

Well, now, it depends. presumably you do know that you can't drive all the way, but have to put your car on a boat or a train to cross the Channel. Liverpool to the M25 will take you about 4 hours; round the M25 and onto the M20 for Folkestone is another 3 hours. Allow an hour to wait for a Eurotunnel shuttle and half an hour for the tunnel, then another three and a half hours to Paris: a total of 12 hours.
