Fibonacci was a famous mathematician who lived around the turn of the 13th century. He is known for a sequence where each number is the sum of the two preceding it. He presented it as the total number of pairs rabbits in a population after a given number of time periods. For mathemetical simplicity, he assumed that each pair of rabbits had to be 1 year old before they could breed, gave birth to a pair and lived for another year before dying.

The sequence goes 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,... and is found in many natural obects (though not rabbit populations!).
