The Archimedes can is a tool used for measuring the density of an object. Density = Mass/weight over volume g.cm-3 or something along those lines :) so you would weigh the object and then plop it into your Archimedes can and then measure how much water came out of the little tube thingamagig and divide the weight by the volume of water displaced and the answer with g.cm-3 beside it is how dense it is.
