Here's what you should do:
-- Make a list of five or ten mathematicians you've heard of. Your list might include
Pythagoras, Euclid, Mandelbrot, Napier, Newton. Or it might not.
-- Spend an hour searching them on-line, one after another. Read a few lines about
each one, and see whether there's anything interesting about any of them. If you see
anything interesting, stop reading, and put a little star next to that name on your list.
-- When you're done with the list, cross out the ones that have no stars.
-- If there's only one with a star, then that's the one for your project.
-- If there's more than one with a star, then go back on-line. Spend maybe ten minutes
on each one, and see which one is the most interesting. Then that's the one for your
project.
-- If anybody gives you a name and tells you that's the one for your project,
don't listen to them. Nobody else knows what you'll be interested in, and you
want to do your project on one that interests you.
