Alan Turing did not invent the computer. He worked during WW2 at breaking military codes. He also considered the concept, called a "Turing machine", which was a machine that could make itself. In his example, this was a tape machine (punched paper tape in those days) which could make itself.
Most importantly, he posed the Turing Test, which was a test to decide whether a machine could develop intelligence. This test has so far resisted a 'yes' answer, but the performance of applicants continues to get better.

Alan Mathison Turing was born on the 23rd June 1912. He is considered to be the father of computer science and also artificial intelligence. Alan Mathison Turing died on the 7th june 1954.
