A graph
A line on a graph that compares two variables, temperature for example tells us a great deal about the relationship of these variables in the experimental system. When the line is straight it reflects a direct and proportional relationship between the two factors.

a diagram that tells how two variables are related
Cepheid variables are high-mass, pulsating variables exhibiting a regular relationship between the period of pulsation and luminosity. When a star's evolutionary track carries it through a region called the instability strip in the HR diagram, the star becomes unstable and begins to pulsate. These stars are important to astronomers who study galaxies because Cepheids can be seen at extragalactic distances, and their period or pulsation tells us their luminosities, which in turn tells us their distances. - Cincinnati
It tells you that the two variables in the graph change together at the same rate. There may or may not be a causal relationship between the tw variables: both could be related to a third variable which is not part of the graph.
That's exactly what the equation tells you.

The fuse diagram tells you what each fuse is for (what circuit the fuseprotects) , the number on the fuse tells you how many amps the fuse can handle before it will blow.
It is a diagram used to trouble shoot wiring concern on the vehicle. Tells you how and where the wires go.

You have to figure that out! Variables, in math, are there because you need to find them and figure the problem out. Usually, on the side it tells you what the variables mean, or you have to find that variable by making the equation make sense if they give u the answer.
