Equation 2. f + 9 = 4(s + 9) ie f + 9 = 4s + 36 ie f = 4s + 27
Substitute for f: 13s = 4s + 27
Subtract 4s from each side: 9s = 27
Divide each side by 9: s = 3 so f = 39 ( in 9 years s = 12, f = 48)
