Old side = x

(x + 3)2 = 2x2

x2 + 6x + 9 = 2x2

6x + 9 = x2

x2 - 6x - 9 = 0

x = 7.245

Old area 52.49 sq cm ( new = 10.2452) = 104.96. Near enough!
