x/a + x/b = 1

Taking x as a common factor: x*(1/a + 1/b) = 1

Adding the fractional parts x*(b/ab + a/ab) = 1

or x*[(b + a)/ab] = 1

Multiply both sides by (a+b)/ab

x = (a+b)/ab

Another Approuch:-

x/a+x/b = 1

Multiply all terms by ab to eliminate the fractions:

bx+ax = ab

Factorise:

x(a+b) = ab

Divide both sides by (a+b):

x = ab/(a+b)

When the equation is solved for x what will be by itself on one side of the equation?

Because it is "solved for x", x will be by itself on one side of the equation. On the other side will be what x equals.

Can anyone help solve this equation 5x y equals 10?

Nobody can help you find a solution until you get another equation to go along with this one. Your equation has two variables in it ... 'x' and 'y' ... so it has no unique solution all by itself.

What is the answer for this 9 equals x2 plus 57?

This equation is unsolvable as x2 cannot be a negative number as would be suggested by this equation. Any number, even a negative, multiplied by itself will always give a positive number but this equation leaves you with x2 = -48

Can you solve x plus 2y equals 2?

No. There is not enough information in the equation x + 2y = 2, by itself, to solve it. There are an infinite number of solutions. A second equation, or information to allow a second equation to be derived, must be given to find a solution.
