If you take two things that are EXACTLY the same size and you then cut one into 6 pieces and the other into 8 pieces, the pieces from the '6' cutting will be larger than the pieces from the '8' cutting (because there are less of them).

In both the 7/8 and 5/6 cases, only one piece from each is missing from the whole.

But as we know an '8' piece is smaller than a '6' piece then the remainder of the 7/8 must be bigger than the remainder of the 5/6.
