It depends on two things:

  • whether it is a straight line, and
  • whether you are doing the line plot by hand.

If the answer to either questions is YES, then you don't need to. A computer generated plot of a curve is going to consist of a confusing zigzag of line segments going back and forth.

You might be able to get around that by generating a scatter plot and then getting the software to draw a trend-line.
