There are two values for y in the simultaneous equations: y = (-5) or 7
y = x - 3
y2 = 2x + 29
Substitute x for y and simplify to a quadratic equationin x:
(x-3)2 = 2x + 29
x2 - 6x + 9 = 2x + 29
x2 - 8x - 20 = 0
Using the quadratic equation (or just by looking here)
(x - 10)(x + 2) = 0
Where x = (-2) and y = -5
(-52) = (- 4) + 29
or x = 10 and y = 7
(72) = (20) + 29
