How to answer this probability question?

Updated: 5/22/2021

Ms. Late goes to work by taking the taxi or bus. She is twice more likely to take the bus than the taxi. The probability that she is late when taking the taxi is 2/9 and the probability that she is late when taking the bus is 1/5. (i) What is the probability that Ms. Late is not late on any particular day? (ii) Given that on that particular day, Ms. Late is late, what is the probability that she has taken the bus to work?

The range is 15--2 = 17 minutes.

6 sigma covers the range

So, 6 sigma = 17

sigma = 17/6

What is the probability that your water will be polluted?

The probability is close to 100%. The more important question is the extent of pollution and how harmful those pollutants are. The answer to that depends on where in the world the question is about.The probability is close to 100%. The more important question is the extent of pollution and how harmful those pollutants are. What is the probability of getting a question right simple by guessing?

That depends a lot on the specific circumstances, of how you guess. For instance, if a test has true/false questions, the probability is 1/2; if it is a multiple-choice question with 4 options, the probability is 1/4; if there are 6 options, the probability is 1/6, etc.; if you have to calculate a number (and it is NOT a multiple choice question), the probability is rather low, indeed.

How do you solve probability with a mean?
