A multiple, by definition, is a number that another number can be multiplied to get. For instance, since 2 x 3 = 12, 12 is a multiple of both 2 and 3. A factor is the opposite. For instance, since 2 x 3 = 12, both 2 and 3 are factors of 12. Multiples and factors have everything to do with multiplication. Multiple is even the base word for multiplication.
