Whole numbers seem obvious to me. Even in prehistoric times, how many chickens do I have? Let's trade. I'll give you 5 chickens for one goat. How can you trade without some form of counting? Maybe they didn't use numerals like we do (maybe 5 was just five straight lines) but they had some method for counting and representing numbers.

Negative numbers is much more recent. Chinese wrote about negatives more than 2000 years ago. The Greeks considered them even before that, but dismissed them as meaningless. The Indians (from the country India) first understood their importance especially in terms of debt for what we now call bookkeeping or accounting. But they are needed in many other areas as well. Gabriel Fahrenheit made a thermometer and (by the story I've heard) set zero as the coldest thing he could get in his instrument making shop, a mixture of ice and salt. But there are colder days. In the winter temperatures get "below zero". These are negative numbers.

What is a whole number and their opposite?

Well to correct your grammar first of all so I can read the question more understandably, what is a whole number and its opposite. A whole number is a number greater than 0. The opposite of a whole number is a negative number. A negative number is a number below 0, like you see on thermometers when its really cold sometimes. Here is a very important thing that you need to know. If you don't know this you will get it wrong on a test. 0 is not a negative number or whole number. It is just known as a place holder on the number line.

How do you round a whole number to the nearest whole number without decimals?

If a number is already a whole number, and you are being asked to round it to the nearest whole number, then you don't need to round it anymore, since itself is the nearest whole number.

Convert 28.25 to a whole number?

If a decimal could be converted to a whole number, we wouldn't need decimals for anything. Or fractions either. The fact is: NO decimal, and no ordinary fraction, can be converted to a whole number. That's why we need them.
