Hopefully you know at least how to add (5+4 = 9, etc). If not you should definitely learn to add before you learn to type. Adding whole numbers is the same as adding numbers you learned in kindergarten, with the exception of 0 (but then, a+0 = a for all numbers a).

Say you wanted to subtract 7 from 13.

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 <- 7 <- 8 <- 9 <- 10 <- 11 <- 12 <- 13

Basically, all you do is count down 7 numbers from 13, which takes you to 6.

Now say you wanted to add 8 to 12.

10 11 12 -> 13 -> 14 -> 15 -> 16 -> 17 -> 18 -> 19 -> 20 21 22

All you is go 8 numbers up from 12, which leads you to 20.
