Go from left to right. If the number on the left is bigger than another, then this is greater, regardless of the numbers after.

Say we have 459.846 and 459.4734

45 and 9 are the same so we move to the tenths position. As the 8 of 459.846 is bigger than the4 of 459.4734, this is greater.
