Let the upper bound of the set (the biggest element or upper limit) = A

Let the lower bound of the set (the smallest element or lower limit) = B

Then, the range is A - B

In a finite set the range will be the largest minus the smallest elements. But with infinite sets, (specifically, open sets), one or both extrema may not be members of the set.
