What should you do if a nearby outlet sparks when the room light is switched on?

Disconnect the circuit breaker or fuse to that outlet. Then disable or replace the outlet. This is fairly easy and you can buy a new outlet at a home improvement store for a couple of bucks. If you are not comfortable working with these sorts of things call an electrician.

How do you change dryer plugs?

for USA, Canada and countries running a 60 Hz supply service.A new 240 volt socket outlet needs to be installed so that you can then just plug the new dryer into it.Call a licensed electrician. Here are more answers from WikiAnswers contributors:It depends on the outlet in your home, it will be either a 3 or 4 prong outlet. Both cords get wired identically with one minor difference. A 3 prong will have 2 hot leads( black and red) that connect to the outer 2 terminals, and the white neutral wire goes to the center terminal. On a 4 prong cord there is an additional green ground wire that connects to the green grounding screw. Remember to secure the cord with a strain relief clamp. You will need to cut power to your breaker box or fuse panel. Then insure you have the capacity to add this 30 amp circuit breaker and space for a new breaker or fuse holder. Now run 10-3 cable to the laundry room and into a dryer receptacle box. Wire up a 4-prong dryer outlet. Lastly connect the hot leads to the appropriate terminals and the neutral and ground wires to the relevant screws. Then insert the circuit breaker or fuse holder and restore the power.lowe's.com has a very good tutorial on how to wire 240 volt receptacles including the hookups in the fuse box.Under the dryer is a connection box that can be accessed through the back of the dryer. Inside you will find either 4 wires or 3 wires. On a 4 wire dryer, there will be a red wire and a black wire along with a white and a green. The red and black are your 240 Volt feeds to the dryer unit. The white is the neutral wire. It will connect to the neutral terminal inside the dryer unit. The green wire should be attached to the dryer's casing and the main frame of the dryer. Use a large romex compression fitting for the cord and insert it into the knock out plug in the cover of the termination box.If you mean "How do I install my new dryer receptacle" then you have received the wrong answer. However if you want to know how to install a power cord you have received the correct answer. To install a dryer receptacle, shut the power off at the main supply panel. On that panel there is usually a 30 amp double pole breaker for the dryer circuit. Remove your old receptacle and look at how it is wired: black is one hot phase and red is the other hot phase (usually brass screw-downs on either side of the neutral} which is actually just a ground at the panel. But if it is a four wire receptacle there will be an additional lug for the green or bare ground wire. Cut your wires a little long or they won't bend very easily. Remount it and test for continuity to ground on both the neutral and the ground wire before energizing the breaker. Put your hand on the breaker handle, turn your head away from the panel and turn on the power. Or it's best to call an electrician first! As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

You tripped a circuit breaker while trying to install a dimmer switch and now all the power to my condo is out. You reset all the breakers including the main and the power won't come on.?

I once put out all circuits in a Hotel In Germany by plugging something in to an outlet in my room. If you are in a Condo there is probably a panel feeding your unit. Your problem might be there instead of the panel in your unit.

How do you install a 240V hookup if there is a 120V outlet where you are replacing a gas stove with an electric one?

Get an electrician to wire you up a 220v line. Yes, with a caveat. The current ratings must be the same, and the the 110V outlet must be a dedicated circuit, i.e. nothing else on that breaker. You can safely upgrade a dedicated 110V 15A circuit to a 220V 15A circuit by re-using the same wiring. You will have to just replace the breaker and the outlet. You cannot, however, increase the current load or have a 110/220V (4-prong) outlet. Note that if you move a non-dedicated circuit up to 220 you will start a fire.

Why hair dryer work with bed room outlet but not work with gfci outlet at bath room?

It could be that the bathroom circuit simply has more on it so the hair dryer is pushing the circuit beyond its limit. In a typical bathroom, properly wired, this would not be the case. But if there are lights on the circuit other than in the bathroom (it would take a lot of lights for this to be a problem), or if there is a source of heat in the bathroom that is on, this may be where your problem is.

How can I better organize my laundry room?

Install wire shelves above the washer & dryer for things like detergent, fabric softener & iron. Get an ironing board that hangs on the door or wall. Have a rolling rack to hang clothes on as they come out of the dryer. Install a folding sweater rack.

Why would the two light fixtures and one overhead fan in your bathroom all go dead at once and remain dead even though the breaker has not tripped?

Proably due to a GFCI breaker located in an outlet either in the bathroom or on the same circuit, possibly in another room like the kitchen or other bathroom. You will see the button on the outlet....

Can I fit the Whirlpool LTG5423D stackable washer/dryer combo in an 8 foot x 8 foot square dining room?

The Whirlpool LTG5423D would look a bit out of place in a dining room and need a gas outlet as well.

Why and when would you use a GFCI breaker within a older home with a groun?

You need a GFCI outlet at any location that is within 6' of a water source. You also need a GFCI outlet in a room with a concrete floor, any garage, and any location outside the home or under the home in the crawl space. A GFCI outlet protects you from electrical shock near water or moisture. You can protect more than one outlet with 1 GFCI outlet. Connect the incoming power to the LINE side of the GFCI outlet and all the other outlets getting power from that outlet to the LOAD side of the GFCI outlet. That way they will all be protected by 1 GFCI. A GFCI breaker is used to protect an entire circuit and not just individual receptacles. It is often cheaper to use GFCI receptacles than a breaker, especially if "piggy-backed" such as described above. It is also more convenient to reset a GFCI receptacle than to reset a breaker. But your question is "why." From this I suspect you may be misunderstanding the difference between a breaker and GFCI protection. To keep things simple let me say that a GFCI does not work on the same principles as a standard breaker. It provides a much safer protection than a standard breaker. Even with a ground you need GFCI protection as listed above.
