In Geometry a line is infinite, meaning, it can continue on and on in any of it's two directions.

In geometry a line can extend only in two directions (generally we draw lines left and right or up and down):

  • <---->

While a line segment, has only the amount of space between the two points.

  • A•----•B

and Ray, has a single point and can extend infinitely in one direction. (The clock hour or minute or second hand is a ray)

  • A•--->

So a line can travel two ways in a straight path. thus a line can only go through 3 points once, if the points are all in a straight line in any direction.

  • <--•---•---•--> or diagonally, or vertical, or somewhere in between.

Therefore one could write a postulate.

For any undefined line can cross three points only if the three points are in a line themselves.
