If you draw the two figures that are formed by the woman and her shadow, and the tree and its shadow, you'll see that there are two similar right triangles. So from the similarity of these two triangles we have,
4/30 = 5/x, where x is the length of the tree (cross multiply)
4x = 150 (divide by 4 to both sides)
x = 37.5
Thus, the tree is 37.5 ft tall.
If you have studied Direct Proportion then, you would have easily done it.
x1/y1=x2/y2
Here x1 is 5; y1 is its corresponding value that is, 4; x2 is ? and y2 is 30
So, solving the question you get 37.5 as your answer.
