The first generation of Transformers were called the Primes, (Prime means first). They created their own language which only they could read. The Fallen was a prime, but he turned against the other primes. Him and the decepticons wanted the allspark and the matrix to gain control of cybatron and the universe. They killed all the other primes except Optimus, who was hiding. Hence why he is the only Prime left.
