It's a physics problem, but it would take a whoooooooole bunch of calculus to do it. It may be better to pull your hair out writing a killer computer program to model blood spatter and let a big machine crunch the numbers to show some calculated patterns. What the "CSI types" are doing is setting up experiments using fresh animal blood kinda like on TV. They model the action and analyze the patterns. There are a number of experts in the discipline. You can always try some experiments yourself. Just don't make a mess you can't clean up. Oh, almost forgot. Wikipedia has a very readable article on bloodstain pattern analysis. Need a link?
