Let x be the # of dimes & y be the # of quarters. Then set up two equations & solve using substitution method.
(1) x + y = 35 total number of coins
(2) 0.10x + 0.25y = 5.75 total number of money
Rearrange first equation in terms of y & substitute into second equation & solve:
y = 35 - x
0.10x + 0.25(35-x) = 5.75
0.10x + 8.75 - 0.25x = 5.75
-0.15x = 5.75-8.75
