Think of it like this: you need to rearrange things so y is by itself on one side of the equation:

xy-8=k

First add 8 to both sides to get rid of the 8 on the y side:

xy-8+8=k+8

xy=k+8

Divide both sides by x to get y by itself:

(xy)/x=(k+8)/x

y=(k+8)/x

That's it. Just remember that you always add or subtract before multiplying or dividing.

X varies directly with y and inversely with z x equals 20 when y equals 8 and z equals 4 Find x when y equals 4 and z equals 8 solve for missing variable?

Since ( x ) varies directly with ( y ) and inversely with ( z ), we can express this relationship as ( x = k \frac{y}{z} ), where ( k ) is a constant. Given ( x = 20 ) when ( y = 8 ) and ( z = 4 ), we can find ( k ): [ 20 = k \frac{8}{4} \implies 20 = 2k \implies k = 10 ] Now, to find ( x ) when ( y = 4 ) and ( z = 8 ): [ x = 10 \frac{4}{8} = 10 \cdot 0.5 = 5 ] Thus, ( x ) equals 5.

If Y varies directly as x and y equals seventy-five when x equals five find y when x equals one?

Y varies directly as the square of r If y equals 405 when are equals 9 find y when are equals 2?

y / r2 = a constant (k) so k = 405/81 ie 5. k = y/4 when r = 2, so y = 20.

If y varies directly as x and y equals fifteen and when x equals 6 find y when x equals 10?

y = x/k so 15 = 6/k making k = 0.4. when x = 10 y = 10/0.4 ie 25 alternatively y/x = k ie 15/6 = k so k = 2.5; y/10 = 2.5 making y = 25.
