Let the length be (2x+2) and the width be x:

length*width*height = volume

(2x+2)*x*6 = 240 cubic ft

Divide both sides by 6:

(2x+2)*x = 40

2x2+2x-40 = 0

Solving the above quadratic equation works out as:

x = -5 or x = 4 it must be the latter because dimensions can't be negative.

Therefore: length = 10 ft, width = 4 ft and height = 6 ft

Check: 10*4*6 = 240 cubic feet

A rectangle has a perimeter of 72m If the length is 20 m longer than the width find its dimensions?

a rectangle has a perimeter of 72m. If the length is 20 m longer than the width find its dimensions?

Which best explains why points cannot have a diameter of 0.5 mm?

Points have no dimensions - no length, breadth or height. At 0.5 mm they are no longer a point but a blob (or a very small disk).

How do you find the width of a rectangle when the height is 7 ft and the length is 23 ft?

A rectangle only has 2 dimensions. The longer one is usually called the length, and the shorter one is usually called the width. But if the rectangle happens to be standing up on one of its sides, then either the length or width may become its height. Whenever you see "height" of a rectangle, that number will be either the length or the width of the rectangle when the drawing is lying flat on the desk.

Why does length width and height equal volume?

A square has width and height. Width is the horizontal line, height is the vertical line. This is a two-dimensional object and has an area.A cube is a square with one more dimension, length, which makes it a three dimensional object. As a three-dimensional object, it no longer has an area, but now has volume. To find the area of a cube (a three-dimensional object), one must multiply three dimensions (length, width, and height) to obtain the volume of the cube.

What is the formula in getting the height of a rectangle?

lenght times height == If it rests on one of the shortest sides , then the altitude is the length of the longer side. If it rest on one of the longer sides, then the altitude is the length of the shortest side. If it is the special case of a square, then any side is an altitude.

What are the dimensions of a rectangular prism with 384cm cubed?

The volume of a rectangular prism does not provide sufficient information to determine its dimensions. The prism could by a cuboid with edges of length cuberoot(384) = 7.27 cm approx. Or it could be a prism with bases of 1 cm * 1 cm and a length of 384 cm, or bases of 1 mm * 1mm and a length of 384 metres or it could be an even narrower longer shape.

Does it matter which dimensions you select for the length and width when you find the area of a rectangle?

not really but the length is always the longer side :)

Do men have longer limbs than women?

Limb length is generally a factor of the height of a person. Normal development dictates that the limb length be proportionate to height. As the average height of men is more than that of women, it can be said that men have longer limbs than women.

Which way is length?

Length is the horizontal measurement and the vertical one is height. If there are 2 horizontal ones then length is the longer one, and the other one is breadth, or width.
