Best Answer

When used with numbers, positive means "more than zero", and negative means "less than zero". Other meanings are:* Positive: something favorable; negative: something unfavorable.

* Positive: something is found; negative: nothing was found. Especially used for medical analysis. Note that this meaning is quite contrary to the previous one - since finding a disease can be quite unfavorable for the patient!
