What do unit rate mean?

A unit rate is where there is the number 1 in a ratio. It basically means that you keep simplifying until you figure out how much there would be if there was just 1. Example: 1.) Josh's mom gave him 21 pieces of candy when he did 7 chores. How many pieces of candy would he have if he just did 1 chore? 7 7 1 ---- / ---- = ----- <- 1/3 is the answer 21 7 3 Hint: I'm assuming since you don't know what a unit rate is that you are still just a kid. When your teacher first teaches it, the 1 will probably be on the bottom. It can be on the top or the bottom just make sure to follow the orders it is on the problem or the order it asks for.
