It means to simply get the variable alone. Basically, if the question were 2x+7=15, then first you would have to get rid of the 7 by doing the opposite of what it's doing in the problem to both sides, so then you would be left with 2x=8. So then you would simply divide both sides by 2, and that would leave you with only x, therefore isolating it, and making whatever was left for the answer, the answer to x. Hope that helped :D

Why do you isolate the variable on one side the the equation when solving a linear equation?

Isolating a single variable in terms of the rest of the equation provides a solution to that variable. That is, if you know the equation that equals the variable, then you can figure out its value.

What does isolate mean in math?

To completely isolate the variable, we have to divide both sides of the equation by 6. x = 24 / 6 x = 4 Now, x is all by itself or "isolated". We can read the answer right from the equation. x equals 4. To review, isolating the variable means getting every term containing the variable on one side of the equationfound on google...

How do you find x in the equation 4x equals 1 over 16?

As usual when solving equations, you need to "isolate" the variable, in this case, the variable "x". 4x means 4 times x; if you divide both sides of the equation (the left side and the right side) by 4, you will have achieved this.

How do you solve for the value of a variable?

you isolate the variable to the left side of the equation and keep all other terms and factors to the right side, as in solving for x in 2- x = 2. You have to use basic algebraic manipulation to isolate the chosen variable, i.e., adding multiplying or dividing by an equal amount to each side of the statement in order to isolate x.

What does isolation of the variable mean?

isolation of the variable means to get the variable on one side of the equation and the integers on the other side

Which is the best way to solve the equation?

That depends on the equation. In general, you'll try to isolate the variable, by using operations (on both sides of the equation) that get rid of anything other than the variable, on the side the variable is on.

How do you solve algebra equations?

-- You select an operation. -- You apply the same operation to each side of the equation. -- You keep doing both steps until the equation says (the variable) = (the value of the variable)
