14 is the same as 56/4 (i just multiplied both the top and bottom by four), and 12/4 is twelve fourths

56/4 + 12/4 = 68/4

this can also be reduced down into 17/1 which is the same as 17

*note* i broke 14 into a fraction that has a common denominator to that of 12/4 just to show how fractions can be used in this scenario. I could of also easily converted the fraction 12/4 into the whole number 3 and it would of been 14 + 3 which is the same answer. I just wanted to show the other method to revamp any fractional practice you might need.
