The pile of leaves, an 'unknown,' would be the 'x' in 'x+6.'
a + 6
If: 12 = x+6 Then: x = 6
-10+6=-4
x + 4 = 6 x = 6 - 4 x = 2
basic algebra -8x + 6 = -58 -8x = -64 x = (-64/-8) x = 8
2x - 6 = x + 5 add 6 and subtract x to both sides; x = 11
If you don't know what x is then there is nothing more you can do with that problem. At least in 9th grade algebra haha.
4c/15+5c/6 8c/30+25c/30 33c/30
If: 1/2 = q+2/3 Then: q = -1/6
If the question was a+8-4=16 what is a? you have to work backwards and change the plus to minus and minus to plus... 16+4-8=a, a=12 If the algebra question was a little bit more complicated like 2n+6= 20, that is the same as 2xn+6=20. Like before, we have to work backwards so (20-6):2=n, n=7
No. I'm not sure if there's a word for what it is (though "blindingly obvious" comes to mind). In logic, it would be a tautology; I don't know if the same word can be applied to algebra as well.
(2A/A)+6 is equal to eight. 2A/A leaves one with 2, since the As cancel out and 2 and 6 is eight.
