In TESOL terms, a "scatter sheet" refers to a listening activity that includes a chosen list of vocabulary words laid out in a random order. Learners are then expected to listen to a particular text and circle the words that they hear. To increase the level of difficulty unrelated words can also be added to the list.

As a second activity on the same worksheet, a "cloze" (blanks/gaps) listening activity, which makes use of some of the same vocabulary words introduced in the first task can be used to challenge learners. As one example, a short dialog between two speakers could be used.

As a third and final activity, learners could make use of the previous cloze listening activity to practice and present their dialog.
