You were going along pretty good until you hit the words "to the second power".

Right there, you no longer have a 'linear' equation.

The question looks like you're trying to say one of the following two equations:

Either

x + y2 = 25

or

(x + y)2 = 25.

Neither is a linear equation. Each is the equation of a parabola.

What symbol will you find in every linear equation?

The equals sign ( = ). In fact it defines any equation, linear or not, since an equation is a statement that a particular value or term is equal to, so the result of solving, a second set of terms and operators. Any other symbols would be particular to the equation you have derived or are trying to solve.

What is an Airy equation?

An Airy equation is an equation in mathematics, the simplest second-order linear differential equation with a turning point.

It is an equation ... Anything with an equals is an equation 2+b=6 Anything without an equals is an expression 2+a

What does it mean for a ordered pair to be a solution to a linear equation?

An ordered pair is a solution only of a linear equation in two variables - not any linear equation. Often the variables are denoted by x and y. If the first of the ordered pair is substituted for x in the equation, and the second for y, then the equation represents a true statement.

Would the cross section of a satellite dish be modeled by a linear or a quadratic equation?

The satellite dish is a parabolic reflector. A parabola cannot be modeled by a linear equation because a linear equation is one that graphs as a straight line. It takes a second degree expression to plot it, and that means a quadratic equation.

Is an equation considered a standard form of quadratic equation if the first term or the quadratic term is on the second side?

No, it is not.

What are the differences of linear and non-linear equation?

Linear equations have a variable only to the first degree(something to the power of 1). For example: 2x + 1 = 5 , 4y - 95 = 3y are linear equations. Non-linear equation have a variable that has a second degree or greater. For example: x2 + 3 = 19, 3x3 - 10 = 14 are non-linear equations.

What is a non-linear equation?

A nonlinear equation does not produce a straight line and the exponent is to the second power or more. x square plus 3y =5 is an example of a nonlinear equation.

If the ordered pair (3-2) satisfies one of the two linear equations in a system how can you tell whether the point satisfies the other equation of the system?

Substitute the values for the two variables in the second equation. If the resulting equation is true then the point satisfies the second equation and if not, it does not.

What is x to the second power plus y to the second power equals z to the second power?

It's an equation. Specifically, in 3 dimensions it's the equation of a right cone centered on the origin.

Use the substitution method to solve the following system of linear equations -3x-y equals 3 -3x-5y equals -21?

From first equation, -y = 3x + 3. Substitute in second equation: -3x + 5(3x + 3) = -21 ie 12x = -36 so x = -3 and y = -(-9 + 3) = 6. Easier method: subtract first equation from second giving -4y = -24 so y = 6, this in first equation gives -6 = 3x + 3, ie 3x = -9 so x = -3
