An ellipse is a shape with two points called the focuses, and the sum of the distances from the two focuses is constant, and you would probably call it an oval. The ellipse has two axes at right angles, and they are called the major axis (a) which passes through the two focuses, and the minor axis (b) which passes through the center point between the focuses.
