I don't know if this is the most efficient way to get to the answer (short of looking at the back of the book), but here goes:

Remove a parallelogram with top and bottom of 15 units from the trapezium. This will leave a triangle with base 23-15=8, and sides of 8.5 and 10.

The area of this triangle, in terms of its sides, a, b and c, is

sqrt[s*(s-a)*(s-b)*(s-c)] where s = (a+b+c)/2

That is, the area of the triangle is 32.77 square units.

Now, the area of the triangle is also base*height/2

So 8*Height/2 = 32.77

That is, Height = 32.77/4 = 8.1925 units

If the length of the bases of an isosceles trapezoid are known can you compute the measure of the internal angles?

Let's do an example.Draw an isosceles trapezoid. Let say that the biggest base has a length of 10, and the smallest base has a length of 4.Draw two perpendicular line that pass through the vertices of the smallest base, to the biggest base of the trapezoid.A rectangle is formed whose lengths of its two opposite sides equal to the length of the smallest base of the trapezoid. Then, we can say that the base of the right triangle whose hypotenuse is one one of the congruent sides of the trapezoid is 3, (1/2)(10 -4). So that one of the possibilities of its height (which also is the height of the trapezoid) is 4, and the hypotenuse is 5 (by the Pythagorean triple). Now, in the right triangle whose hypotenuse is one of the congruent sides of the trapezoid, we have:tan (base angle of the trapezoid) = 4/3, andthe base angle angle of the trapezoid = tan-1 (4/3) ≈ 53⁰.Since the sum of the two adjacent angles of the trapezoid is 180⁰, the other angle of the trapezoid is 127⁰.Thus, the base angles of the isosceles trapezoid have a measure of 53⁰, and two other angles have a measure of 127⁰.So, we need to have more information in order to find the angles of the isosceles trapezoid for the given problem.

How do find the base of a trapezoid?

The base of a trapezium is one of the parallel sides. Conventionally it is the longer of the two parallel sides but that need not be the case.

What is a formula for area of trapezoid?

(base one + base two) divided by 2 times the height = area

Formula for trapezoid?

A trapezoid is a 4 sided quadrilateral with 1 pair of opposite parallel sides of different lengths. Its perimeter is the sum of its 4 sides. Its area is: 0.5*(sum of parallel sides)*height

One of the two nonparallel sides of the trapezoid?

The leg of a trapezoid is one of the two nonparallel sides of the trapezoid. However, the base of a trapezoid is of the two parallel sides of the trapezoid.

What is the area of a trapezoid?

The area of a trapezoid = 1/2 (altitude)(base 1 + base 2) *altitude can also be called the height, or the spacing between the parallel sides. Base 1 is the length of one of the parallel sides, and base 2 is the length of the other parallel side.

Does an isosceles trapezoid have one pair of congruent opposite sides and congruent base angles?

Yes, an isosceles trapezoid has one pair of congruent opposite sides and congruent base angles

Can a trapezoid be a square?

Wikipedia defines a trapezium (trapezoid) as a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides. However, it also acknowledges that there is disagreement as to whether or not that means exactly one pair or at least one pair. Under the first definition a trapezium could not be a square whereas under the second, it would. Sorry not to give you an unambiguous answer but ...

What are properties of trapezoid?

A trapezoid has one pair of opposite sides parallel.A regular trapezoid has non-parallel sides equal and its base angles are equal, as shown in the following diagram.
