A car is being driven at a speed of 100 kilometres per hour
A man is walking at a speed of 200 centimetres per minute
Which one is going faster?
Unless you are able to convert units, all that you can do is look at the numbers and maybe conclude that the man is going faster because 200 is bigger than 100. But if you CAN convert, you would know that 200 cm per second = 720,000 cm per hour = 7.2 km per hour.
They help to change the unit (or units) in a ratio.Example:24 in./2 hrs. to 2 ft./ 120 min.

Anson-units are a measurement for solar radiation that can be converted to Watts per square meter using the conversion factor of 1 Anson-unit equaling 7.9 watts per square meter.
The conversion factor between imperial temperature units (Fahrenheit) and metric temperature units (Celsius) is 5/9.
You use conversion factors.
Identify the quantities you have and the unit conversion factor needed. Set up a conversion factor with the units you want to convert to on top and the units you want to convert from on the bottom. Multiply the given quantity by the conversion factor to cancel out the unwanted units and obtain the desired units. Check that the units in your final answer are correct and make sense.
The conversion of different units of measures used on a map
Rw is measured in units of dB, there is no need for conversion.
You need to know which units you are converting from and to.
Density = Mass/Volume. Conversion between units will depend on what the two units are.
