I'll answer this, in this way, if you were to be working for $20 per hour at a job, would you want to get 38 hours worth of pay, for a 40 hour week? I doubt it. You would want exact numbers to be used to total up your pay, for the hours worked.

In medicine, engineering, or any of a number of other trades, you want exact numbers to be used because, if the numbers are not exact, your car could fall apart on the freeway, because just any old numbers were used for the building it, the antibiotic to cure an infection might not work, or worse, make the infection worse, because just any set of numbers were used to control the manufacture of the drug. Exact numbers set limits on how something is to be done, and this is vital in all aspects of our society.
