It could be a mathematical formula. If you equate it to a value, you can solve for X, if you want. For example if (X+5)/8 = 20, then X = 8x20-5, which equals 155. Now, if you mean X+5/8, then if you set it equal to 20 you get X = 20-5/8, which equals 19 3/8 or 19.375. All by itself though, X plus 5 over 8 could be anything. Or nothing.
Answer: x = 8/7
If: x + 2/2 + x + 5/7 = 4 Then: x = 8/7
x - 8 + x - 5 + x + 1 = 3x - 12
x/-5 + 8 = 11 To solve this: Subtract 8: x/-5 = 3 Multply by -5: x = 3*-5 Work it out: 3*-5 = -15 x = -15
(x + 5)(x + 8)
3
They are at x = -3 and x = -2.
8 + 3 x 5 = 23
If you mean: x+8-x+9 when x = 5 Then it is: 5+8-5+9 = 17
5 + 8(3 + x) 5 + 24 + 8x 29 + 8x
-3
x2 + 13x + 40 = x2 + 5x + 8x + 40 = x(x + 5) + 8(x + 5) = (x + 8)(x + 5)
