Then the owner must pay their employees, so math is again used to figure out how much they get paid based upon their hourly rate and how many hours they worked. Restaurant owners also have to order food and must calculate how much they need for the next day or week ahead. Math is everywhere in our lives, even for a musician!

Some types of math majors I know are:Applied Math - take math courses that have some applications to real life.Pure Math Majors - take math courses, in which the content doesn't rely a lot of on the application of math. Instead, students study the aspects of how math is created.(In some universities) Education Math Majors - usually take some math courses and some physics and computer science courses. They need to take some education courses, based on their goals.

To teach at the secondary level or higher you really need a math major although you can be certified in most states with a minor in math and can likely get a job since math teachers are relatively scarce. You need to take the education courses needed for certification if you want to teach in a public school. You can teach math at the elementary level after one or two courses in math for elementary education. At any level, you will find it advantageous to take as many math courses as you can.

Some highschools may offer special courses in hospitality. Also, you may be able to concurrently take some courses at the local community college. Take Math and bookkeeping if it's available. From the time we go to school all of us should be taught business economics and we'd be far more ahead of the game. High Schools don't offer much other than Math and Bookkeeping. Once you graduate that is the time you can either go to College or take night courses and get information from Financial Advisors at any banking institution. Many people can do this on their own if they want, and can take the courses they need. You need to know how to run the restaurant, how to treat staff, what salaries to pay, what deductions, the Health Rules and Regulations (because your restaurant will have Health Regulators coming to check to be sure you run a clean restaurant.) You need a good gimmick to attract customers, good food, pleasant staff, and you present to greet customers (if you are going on the higher end of the scale re restaurants. Don't be afraid to do that.) You can also go into business with someone that has owned a restaurant, but go to a lawyer to draw up papers. Good for you! Bet you'll be successful. Good luck Marcy
