This is a nice little problem. (16 + x) / (3 + x) = 5/8 5 (3 + x) = 8 (16 + x) 15 + 5x = 128 + 8x -3x = 113 x =- 113 / 3 =============================== Check: 16 - 113/3 = (48 - 113)/3 = -65/3 3 - 113/3 = (9 - 113)/3 = -104/3 (-65/3) / (-104/3) = 65/104 = (13x5)/(13/8) = 5/8 yay!
