y=mx+b is a formula used in graphing linear equations. it is written in this form because of the importance of t edofferent variables. the m stands for the slope, or how much the line goes down or up when the x-value increases by one. The b is a little easier. The b stands for the y-intercept, or where on the y-axis does the line intercept with. To graph this, you would get the equation they give you (sometimes you figure it out on your own), and look at the number where the b is. Whatever the number is, you plot that point on a normal, four-quadrant Cartesian plane's y-axis. Then from there, you look at the number representing the m. Move one point to the right of th eplotted point on the y-axis. Then, if it is a positive slope, go up the amount repreented by the number in the m spot (you have to go downwards if it is negative). I fyou keep on continuing with the slope, you will find that you have a line.
