Where did the algebra came from?

We know that algebra was used in Mesopotamia and Egypt by scribes and builders.Algebra probably came about as a result of people needing to divide up land that was not easily split equally.For instance: If a father wanted to leave a an "L" shaped plot of land to his 3 children in equal parts, then he might hire a scribe to figure out the acreage. The scribe would use basic algebra to give the Father an accurate answer.
