The weight of lead 11.34 grams per cubic centimetre
The weight of gold is 19.3 grams per cubic centimetre(from new person) Okay, I agree, but learn how to spell centimetER.Forget about spelling because in Europe they do spell it centimetre, just like theater and theatre. The specific gravities of the two metals, meaning that gold is 19.32 times heavier than water and likewise lead is 11.34 times as heavy. A cc of gold does seem to be almost twice as heavy as a cc of lead, but according to their respective atomic weights, the opposite begs to differ in this seemingly odd paradox. You see, gold (Au) on the periodic chart, has an Atomic Mass of 196.9 whereas lead (Pb) is slightly heavier with an atomic weight of 207.2 You might ask, why the paradox? Simple really. For that given measure of volume such as a cc, there are almost twice amount of gold atoms packed into that space as there are lead atoms. This is due to the arrangement of their respective atoms, similar to how water molecules are more densely packed together in the liquid state as compared to the solid state of ice.
the lead clearly weighs more...
This question cannot be answered sensibly. It takes only a little mental effort to compare a cubic cm of air and a cubic cm of lead and come to the conclusion that the two will have very different masses.
They both weigh one kg, so they should have the same weight.
Density is a weight per unit volume calculation. There could be different alloys or casting methods with subtle differences in density, or temperature variations in expansion and density. However: Every cubic centimeter of lead weighs 11.34 grams. Every cubic centimeter of iron weighs 7.86 grams. Thus, the density of lead (11.34 g/cc) is greater than iron (7.86 g/cc). This is independent of the actual weight and volume of the sample.
1 cubic inch of lead has a weight of approx 13.11 pounds weight.
Any amount of lead has the same density as one cubic centimeter of lead, but no amount of lead has the same density as any amount of iron.
Lead
No. Gold is heavier than lead.
A centimeter of what? Air? Lead? Water? If you want to weigh something, first you need to know all three dimensions of the object, since you can only weigh 3-dimensional objects. So, assuming the object is 1cm X 1cm X 1cm, you have a cubic centimeter. Now you need to know the density of the object. Obviously, a cubic centimeter of marshmallow will weigh less than a cubic centimeter of lead: A cubic centimeter of lead weighs 11.34 grams A cubic centimeter of water weighs 1 gram Silicone = 2.3 grams A cubic centimeter of a concentrated mass of neutrons (a former star) = 800,000,000 tons!!!!!
Divide the number of grams by the density (the density of lead is about 11 grams/cubic centimeter - look it up if you need more precision). If the density is in grams/cubic centimeter, the answer is the volume in cubic centimeters.
A cubic foot of gold weighs 1200 poundsA cubic foot of platinum weighs 1330 poundsA cubic foot of silver weighs 652 poundsA cubic foot of mercury weighs 800 poundsA cubic foot of iron weighs 450 poundsA cubic foot of lead weighs 700 poundsAs you can see only Platinum is heavier than Gold...(about 11% heavier if volume and purity are equal)Answer:There are four metals that are denser than gold:1. Osmium - 22,61 gr/cm³2. Platinum - 21,40 gr/cm³3. Plutonium - 19,80 gr/cm³4. Tungsten - 19,60 gr/cm³5. Gold - 19,32 gr/cm³................................9. Lead - 11,34 gr/cm³ (Just to get the perspective)
12 oz of lead
Lead is heavier then steel but not as expensive as gold ( the heviest metal)
Plutonium is heavier than gold. It is a dense, radioactive metal that is commonly used in nuclear reactors and weapons.
Water has a mass of 1000 kg per cubic metre. Lead has a mass of 11340 kg per cubic metre. So lead is heavier than water.
I Cubic Foot of Gold would weigh 548.18 Kilograms or 1206 pounds A golf ball sized sphere of pure gold would weigh 1 Kilogram or 2.2 pounds A standard 400 oz bullion bar like they throw around in the movies is 12 Kilograms or 26.4 pounds. Try throwing or running with a 25 pound bag of potatoes. These weights are in the commonly used "Avoirdupois" pound. Gold is measured in "Troy" ponds or ounces. There are 1.21527 pounds Troy in 1 pound Avoirdupois. Gold has a specific gravity of 19.3, meaning that it is 19.3 times heavier than water. gold really has an Sg of 12.7 behind mercury being 13.54 g CC so it really weighs 208.11 grams via volume
One cubic centimeter of water weighs one gram. Also note that a cubic centimeter is equal to one milliliter. __ NOTE__ All substances have different densities. The weight of a cubic centimeter depends on what one is weighing. 1 cubic centimeter of lead, for example, weighs 11.34  grams - but a litre of hydrogen (1,000 cc) weighs only 0.08988 grams.
