A continuous linear function produces a straight line graph that can be extended indefinitely in either direction.

If the two ordered pairs are plotted on a graph then a straight line can be drawn joining these points. If that line is extended beyond both ends then there are no set limits and the function becomes continuous.

What is the relationship of the ordered pairs and is the function linear or nonlinear?

How may ordered pairs are in a linear graph?

Each ordered pair is made up of two numbers. A linear graph has an infinite number of pairs. An easy way to see this is look at the line y=x. This is a linear graph and any two of the same numbers will work! So there are an infinite number of ordered pairs.

How are ordered pairs and ratios similar?

You can write ordered pairs as ratios to determine if two sets of ordered pairs form a linear or non-linear relationship. In a table of x,y values, the ordered pairs are listed as the x value first, then the corresponding y value. Remove from the table and write as a ratio of x over y, (or y over x, if you like). In a linear relationship, all the ratios of x over y, (or y over x) are equivalent.

What is a rule for the function identified by this set of ordered pairs?

What is the function in algebra of ordered pairs?

The function in algebra of ordered pairs is function notation. For example, it would be written out like: f(x)=3x/4 if you wanted to know three fourths of a number.
