In 2-dimensions, the Cartesian coordinate system comprises a pair of axes meeting at right angles at a point called the origin. Conventionally the axes are identified as the x-axis (going from left to right) and the y-axis (going from the bottom to the top).
Every point of the Cartesian plane is allocated an ordered pair of numbers, called coordinates. The first number (abscissa) represents the distance of the point to the right of the origin and the second (ordinate) represents the distance in the upward direction. If the point is to the left or below the origin then the corresponding coordinate is negative.
The Cartesian coordinate system was invented in the 17th century. The idea of this system was developed in 1637.

The Cartesian Coordinate System was discovered by Rene Descartes.
Cartesian coordinate system is used for map making, GPA for cars.

I am not sure that anyone was named AFTER the Cartesian coordinate system. Malcolm X, possibly!
The Cartesian coordinate system can be used in 3 or more dimensions.
Cartesian coordinate system.
cartesian coordinate isn't a system. the graphs you put on the cartesian coordinate plane can be systems. these graphs can be anything you want them to be. and they are calculate different every time. the thing to remember about cartesian coordinate planes is the you plot the points of (x,y)
It was the French mathematician Rene Descartes who devised the Cartesian coordinate system

It is the abscissa.
A Cartesian coordinate system is a coordinate system that specifies each point uniquely in a plane by a pair of numerical coordinates. These coordinate system can be used to provide geometric interpretations for many branches of mathematics.
