Well, honey, it's simple math. You just look for terms with the same variables and add or subtract them together. Think of it like cleaning out your closet - you group all the similar items together to make things easier to manage. So, grab those like terms and toss them in the same pile - easy peasy lemon squeezy!

It there is a common factor in them. e.g.

3x + 6x + 7x + 5x^(2)

The '3x' , '6x', & '7x' re 'like terms, because they have the common factor of 'x' in them. However, 5x^(2) is an unlike term becasue the factor is 'x^(2)' , NOT 'x'.

So to combine LIKE TERMS the expression becomes 16x + 5x^(2)

Well, combining like terms is just like bringing together friends who have similar interests. You look for terms with the same variables and add or subtract their coefficients. It's like mixing colors on your palette to create a beautiful painting - just simplify and bring harmony to your expression. Just remember to take your time and enjoy the process, there's no rush in art or math.

To combine like terms in an algebraic equation, first of all, the variables must be the same. Ex. 2x +3x =5x 2x +3a= not able to do This is because you cannot compare things of two different kinds. Also, you must have the same amount of exponents, or the numbers must be to the same power.
