The standard form for a line is Ax + By = C where A, B, and C are some integers. Given a line in any other form, we simply combine the x terms, combine the y terms, combine the constant terms, and move the algebraic terms to one side and the constant to another.

For example, to change the equation 2y + 3x = 3y - 4 + 5x into standard form, we first combine like terms:

0 = y + 2x - 4

And then move the constant term to its own side:

4 = y + 2x

2x + y = 4.

If there are fractions present in the equation, multiply by the least common factor to eliminate it while still expressing the equation in its simplest form.

For example, 2x + 1/2 y = 2/3

Should be changed to:

12x + 3y = 4.

This expresses the equation without fractions, and without the redundancy of a common term throughout the equation.
