The term average (which can also be referred to as the mean) is where you add all of the numbers in a set and divide by how many numbers there are.

For example, the average of 2, 3, 5, and 6.

First, add all of the numbers.

2+3 = 5

5+5 = 10

10+6 = 16

or... 2+3+5+6 = 16

Lastly, you divide by the amount of numbers in the set.

In this example, there are four numbers.

Now, you divide by the total by the amount of numbers.

16/4

This equals 4, and you have your average (or mean)!
