Absolute Value means the distance from 0. I think of it as numbers on a number line, for instance -3 is 3 units from 0. So the absolute value of -99 would just be 99, because that is its distance from 0.
Let's look at two points on the number line, say 2 and 3. Now 2 is 2 units from 0 and 3 is 3 units away from 0 If you multiply by a negative 1, then 2 become -2 and 3 become -3. So they are the same distance from 0 but their positions changes to the opposite side of zero. In general given points A, B on the number line, multiplying by negative one will preserve the distance which is know as the absolute value but move the points to the other side of 0. Now multiplying by a negative number other than one does the same thing but the absolute value is multiplied by the number as well. For example, 2 x-3 is -6. We multiplied the distance form 0 which was 2 by 3 and changed the position. This is called a reflection. So now picture a vertical line, perhaps right down the middle of this page. If I put two point A and B on the right side of the line and put A closer to the line which I will all zero, and B farther, then A
If you mean the perpendicular distance from the coordinate of (7, 5) to the straight line 3x+4y-16 = 0 then it works out as 5 units.
Let the first number be x and the second number is 27 − x. [As the sum of both the numbers is 27] Therefore, their product = x (27 − x) It is given that the product of these numbers is 182. x (27 – x) = 182 x2 + 27x - 182 = 0 Changing the signs on both sides we get,x2 - 27x + 182 = 0 Factorizing we get , 13 and 14 are the numbers whose sum is 27 and product is 182 x2 – 13x – 14x + 182 = 0 = x(x – 13) – 14 (x – 13)= 0 = (x – 13) (x – 14) = 0 Either x – 13 = 0 or x − 14 = 0 i.e., x = 13 or x = 14 If first number = 13, then Other number = 27 − 13 = 14 If first number = 14, then Other number = 27 − 14 = 13 Therefore, the numbers are 13 and 14.
The absolute value is the distance from 0 on the number line. -5 is 5 away from 0. You cannot have a negative distance, therefore you cannot have a negative absolute value. Absolute values are not ALWAYS positive because absolute values can be zero as well. Zero is not positive nor negative.

On a horizontal number line, the distance is 0!
A number's distance from 0 on a number line is called absolute value. The absolute value of 5 is 5 and the absolute value of -5 is also 5.
