What is the absolute value of negative 99?

Absolute Value means the distance from 0. I think of it as numbers on a number line, for instance -3 is 3 units from 0. So the absolute value of -99 would just be 99, because that is its distance from 0.


Why does the inequality sign change when both sides are multiplied or divided by a negative number?

Negatives are never absolute values WHY?

The absolute value is the distance from 0 on the number line. -5 is 5 away from 0. You cannot have a negative distance, therefore you cannot have a negative absolute value. Absolute values are not ALWAYS positive because absolute values can be zero as well. Zero is not positive nor negative.
